The decision of the Ministries of Finance and Shipping to pay extraordinary financial aid to unemployed seafarers , in the context of the Easter holidays, will come into effect tomorrow, April 15, 2025.

The amount provided is 350 euros , while a corresponding amount will be provided at Christmas. The support comes from the budget of the Sailors’ Home and concerns sailors who meet specific social security criteria.

Payment is made through a bank account and is recorded electronically in the Integrated Information System of the House of Sailors (OPSON). The deposit can be made gradually until April 17, 2025 , provided that the supporting documents are submitted.

Unemployed seafarers who:

• Have at least 5 years of total sea service
• They have 10 months of service in the last 3 years or 20 months in the last 5 years (until 20/04/2025)
• They are registered as unemployed at G.E.N.E.
• They do not work, do not receive a pension or other benefit
• They are not insured in another fund
• They have not been employed since the last dismissal listed in the naval brochure

In addition, the aid concerns:

• Sailors with chronic illnesses
• Sailors who were discharged from the Armed Forces
• Special categories of subsidized workers who have not been registered for more than 1 month
